NetIntel v1.0.0 — Release Notes

Release status: Final NetIntel v1.0.0 artifacts have been built and verified. Public publication is a separate step; use the release page for downloads and signed verification files once publication is complete.

Overview

NetIntel is a lightweight Edge Operational Intelligence Engine for Linux systems, written in modern C++.

It collects native Linux system telemetry, derives operational features, evaluates system health, identifies diagnostic findings, and generates actionable recommendations and notifications.

NetIntel v1.0.0 establishes the production Community Edition distribution, with Debian and RPM packaging, signed license validation, a REST API, webhook notifications, and configurable runtime logging.

Key Capabilities

1. System Telemetry

NetIntel collects system telemetry from native Linux interfaces, including:

Telemetry is normalized into snapshots consumed by subsequent processing stages.

2. Operational Intelligence

NetIntel processes collected telemetry through a layered intelligence pipeline:

  1. Telemetry collection
  2. Feature extraction
  3. Operational health assessment
  4. Diagnostic findings
  5. Recommendation generation

The assessment and recommendation engines use deterministic processing to identify operational conditions and provide guidance to administrators.

3. REST API

NetIntel exposes a REST API for accessing operational information.

The verified API surface includes:

The API is intended for local operational access and integration with external management systems.

4. Webhook Notifications

NetIntel can deliver operational notifications to administrator-controlled webhook endpoints.

Notifications use HTTP POST with a JSON payload. The payload includes notification details and available device identity information.

Administrators can configure the destination, enable or disable notifications, and optionally configure Bearer-token authentication.

For production deployments, use an appropriate HTTPS endpoint and authentication controls.

NetIntel does not require a GNSOFTLAB-hosted webhook receiver.

5. Configurable Runtime Logging

NetIntel supports four runtime logging levels:

LevelPurpose
debugDetailed diagnostic output for troubleshooting
infoNormal operational messages; the default
warnWarnings and more severe messages
errorError messages only

Configure logging in /etc/netintel/netintel.conf:

[logging]
level=info

For troubleshooting, change the level to debug:

[logging]
level=debug

Restart the service to apply the configuration:

sudo systemctl restart netintel

After troubleshooting, restore level=info and restart the service.

Community Edition Licensing

NetIntel Community Edition requires a valid signed Community license. The application package does not include the license artifact; it is issued separately by the GNSOFTLAB License Portal.

License portal: <https://license.gnsoftlab.com>

After installing the package, run the packaged license installation helper:

sudo /usr/libexec/netintel/install-netintel-license

The helper requests the license, downloads the signed artifact over HTTPS, verifies its checksum, and installs it for the NetIntel service.

Do not copy signing private keys to the NetIntel host.

Supported Scope and Limitations

Distribution

The public binary distribution includes these package formats:

Download links, SHA-256 checksums, and the detached checksum-manifest signature are provided on the NetIntel v1.0.0 release page. The source archive and Source RPM are retained privately and are not part of the public binary distribution.
